We regret to have to inform nature lovers about very bad conditions for animals and wildlife observations in Sri Lanka’s famous Yala national Park this year. The local dry season in 2015 turns out to be a serious drought in the south-east of the island, very badly affecting Yala Park in particular. So at present it’s getting more dry than usual in this part of Sri Lanka’s dry zone, currently there is almost no moisture in the entire area.
You can see this on the attached picture of a water hole. The photo was taken last week at Yala Park inside water hall. Unfortunately no enough water is left inside it. Compare it to the more pleasant picture of the same area taken in last year’s dry season in Yala.
However, Wilpattu, Sri Lanka’s largest national park, located in the north-west of the island, is less affected by the current drought. There is still enough water for the animals, since Wilpattu had heavy rains last month and then got even flooded.
