Due to the increasing numbers of migratory birds arriving in Sri Lanka, December is a perfect time for birdwatching and declared the national Bird Month by the Field Ornithology Group of Sri Lanka, the national affiliate of Bird Life International.. Most migratory birds in Sri Lanka are from the Himalayas, Central Asia or Sibiria, but there are also migratory birds from Western Europe and the Far East.
The southern coast and the Kalpitiya in the North-West are ideal for Whale and Dolphin spotting during the season in December to April. The best starting point for Blue Whale and Sperm Whale watching boat trips is Mirissa near Weligama. Large pods of Dolphins can be spotted few miles offshore near Kalpitiya.
Unduvap Full Moon Poya Day on the 6.th of December marks the beginning of the pilgrimage season when devotees climb the sacred Siri Pada, also known as Adam’s Peak.
Though Sri Lanka is a mainly Buddhist country and Hindus and Muslims form larger groups than Christians on the Island, Sri Lankans love to celebrate Christmas for their childrens, too, particularly in and around Colombo. Christmas celebrations for international guests also take place at many renowned hotels throughout the island. Christmas Day is an officially recognized public Holiday in Sri Lanka.
The “Holiday Season Gala Concert” with Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria, the “Toy Symphony” and Carols will be presented by the Colombo Philharmonic Choir and the Orchestra of the Chamber Music Society of Colombo t the Lionel Wendt Theatre on Friday, the 5th of December, at 7.30 p.m and in Galle Fort the following day at the historic Dutch Reformed Church.

Run For Their Lives (RFTL) is an annual charity run organised by Rotaract Club of Colombo Uptown (RCCU) in aid of the National Cancer Institute of Maharagama. RFTL 2014 is scheduled to fire the start off gun on the 13th of December at 4.00 pm.
The Design Carnival organized by the AOD (Acadamy of Design) is a Design Exhibition intended to be a celebration of all things creative,including Graffiti, Music, Dance, and Fun Food. Tickets are at AOD International Design Campus (29, Lauries road, Colombo 04).
The Asian International Trade & Tourism Expo is held from the 2nd December to the 11th December 2014 at the Sri Lanka Exhibition & Convention Centre in Colombo, showcasing products of the Tourism industry auch as assemble agents, distributors, importers, trading companies, wholesalers, retailers, hotels, business representatives restaurants etc.
