Bambarakanda Falls with a height of 241 m is the tallest among the more than 200 waterfalls of Sri Lanka. It ranks among the 300 highest waterfall in the world. The waterfall at the foot of Horton Plains is formed by Kuda Oya, a tributary of the Walawe River. Bambarakanda Falls is situated close to Haldumulla and Kalupahane 5 km away from A4 mainroad and can be reached by car. There is a small trail of 300 m leading to the waterfalls picturesquely located in a pine tree forest.

There are only few accommodation facilities available close to Bambarakanda falls. Bambarakanda Holiday Resort is located overlooking the Bambarakanda falls. But Bambarakanda is can be reached on half-day excursions from Belihul Oya or even Haputale.
Bambarakanda Falls is a starting point of a trekking route from the lowlands to Horton Plains, but you should not do it without a guide and be aware that weather conditions can change abruptly in this area in particular.
